The Music of Puerto Rico is a mix of Spanish and African sounds.  A variety of instruments are used to create this distinctive rhythm, but the most famous is the Cuatro.  Carved from blocks of solid laurel wood, the Cuatro is a 10 string instrument that resembles a guitar.  This instrument is used in the traditional music that is still played and heard on the island today.  Other music that you will experience is classical, folk Bomba y Plena (popular with dancing), Salsa, and a variety of modern Latin music.

Puerto Rico is also known for its tasteful, unique and interesting art.  One of their most interesting art pieces is called caretas-papier-maché.  These are the popular masks that are designed with frightening look, which are worn at the many carnivals that take place on the island.  These masks have been apart of the Puerto Rican history since as far back as medieval Spain.    To experience the best in Puerto Rican art you can visit the many fabulous museums or galleries located in Old San Juan in the heart of Puerto Rico’s capital.

The Authentic cuisine that you can taste in Puerto Rico is a blend of Mexican, Spanish, African American and Taíno, dishes.  The natives of Puerto Rico call their traditional dishes “Cocina Criolla”, which roughly translates to Creole Cooking.  They serve a number of popular foods that are spiced with their authentic flavor, such as chicken, fish and different soups.  Once you have finished your meal, you can then treat yourself to some great drinks that Puerto Rico is known for, such as their coffee and Bacardi Rum.

There are many ways that you can choose to experience the beautiful culture of Puerto Rico; hear it in their music; see in their buildings and museums of art; and taste it in their delicious cuisines and drinks.  Immerse yourself in the Puerto Rican tradition and enjoy a Puerto Rico vacation of a life time.
